I read on Project Dalek that they borrow a bit from Dalek designs made by a fan called Mechmaster... I don't think that's actually true, but it looks a bit like it... for example, the ball joint at the base of the eye stalk.

Fascinating, Dramatic change from RTD's Daleks. I think these look a lot better. Too bad they didn't use Mechmaster's Design, that would have been cool.
I like them, but it's worth pointing out that they are the most radical shift in Dalek design since 1963. (Not counting "special" Daleks.)
Sometimes change is good, especially(sometimes)with Daleks.

"Yeah, it seems damn near everyone at Project Dalek hates the new design for that very reason." - Probably 'cos of the work involved in trying to get the relative dimensions of the thing (bare in mind, they're actually smaller than any before). And then having to come up with a new "how to build a Dalek" manual with all the new information, but isn't this what Project Dalek is all about?
Actually, they're all saying it *looks* terrible. Like, some people are saying it looks like someone put a huge tire on the shoulder section, for example. If you have an account on their forums, you can read the thread for it over there: http://www.projectdalek.com/index.php?showtopic=6216
And actually, they're apparently much taller than the earlier New Series Daleks.
Interesting fact. Are they though? They seem taller than Matt Smith, but I might be wrong in that assumption. It's purely from memory.
